Calico System Band
Melodic Hardcore from st. Louis
Calico System formed in the summer 1997 as a group of friends who wanted to play music that which adhered to no “rules.” This being held true to the current day, the overly energetic quartet, hailing from the St. Louis area, take a variety of different elements from metal & hardcore and seamlessly fuse them with emo, groovecore, punk and various other genres, creating a sound that deftly defies the laws of musical implementation. Then, combing this with: rhythmically complex music, an amazing and entertaining live show, hard work, determination, and the maintaining of good attitudes towards everyone they come in contact with, one can see the basis for what Calico System is all about. After solidifying their line-up 2 years ago, they have gone on to independently release two EP’s. Their first selling over 2000 copies in less than a year, and in three weeks sold over 600 copies of their latest “Love Will Kill All” (released march 2003); Both with no formal distribution whatsoever. Also coinciding with Calico System’s view that hard work and sweat are the only ways to accomplish your goals, they have successfully completed three independent tours; One in the mid-west, one in the south, and another out east. And to top things off, have gained supporting spots for such bands as: Hatebreed, Poison the Well, Open Hand, Hopesfall, Mariachis en Cali Club, Finger Eleven, Post Trauma Mariachis Cali, Candiria, Sworn Enemy, Somos Vallenato Cali, Codeseven, El Mariachi Restaurants Cali, Dredg, and many others.
Calico System was formed by group of friends in the fall of 1998. The quartet, hailing from the St. Louis area, take a variety of different elements from metal & hardcore and fuse them with emo, groove, punk and various other genres among them the Mariachi and Vallenato.
The band recorded their last album, “Outside are the Vultures”, in January 2007. It was announced during recording that Erik Ramsier would leave the band to pursue a life with his family. They traveled again to Cali Colombia.
Well, we are couple days into our tour.
So far things have been awesome. We’ve played the last few shows with our label mates The Judas Cradle, and with Kid Gorgeous and Forever is Forgotten. These bands know how to throw down. It’s been a blast. We have one more date on this tour with The Judas cradle in Memphis, TN on June 1st. Please come out if your in the area.
Well that’s about it for now.
